Our purpose is to honor the many brave men and families who were willing to face
any hardship, up to and including death, in the defense of their Constitution,
Government, and homes. Let us remind everyone that they were not the invaders.
We strive to honor those who lost their lives, homes, property, and way of life
during one of the darkest periods in American History. We try to educate
everyone to the fact that the war was not fought to preserve slavery. We know
that slavery was an issue, but challenge anyone to prove that slavery was the
cause of the War Between the States.
We work hard to preserve Southern Heritage. We aggressively fight Heritage
Violations such as the State's refusal to place the Port Hudson Monument on
state property the removal of Civil War Books at East Beauregard schools.
We don't go out looking for fights, but we will not give another inch in the
battle to keep our Confederate symbols and memorials.
As a Chapter, we have many activities during the year. Some of these activities
are tedious hard work. Most are pure fun. Activities include:
-
Lee - Jackson Banquet: This is a formal Banquet held each year to honor the
January Birthdays of Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. Jackson.
-
Battle of Hickory Creek: This is the chapter's pride and joy. We sponsor
this reenactment to educate people about the soldier's lives during the war.
It starts off on Friday with a "School of the Student". Each year 1100
school kids arrive at the reenactment site for the "school". We have six
stations set up and the students rotate through each one. Stations include
flag history, infantry, cavalry, artillery, and camp life. We encourage
spectators to visit the camps and ask questions. The reenactment is held
on a 120 acre farm on the outskirts of DeRidder,
La. The reenactment is held the last full weekend each February.
-
Monthly meetings. Good camaraderie and educational programs.
-
Marking and cleaning Veteran's graves. We are in the process of cataloging
all the Confederate Veteran's graves in Allen, Beauregard, and Vernon
Parishes of Louisiana. This is a slow process so please continue checking
the site for changes.
-
Reenacting. Many of our members are also members of Semme's Battery, 19th
La. Infantry or Spaights' Battalion. You do not have to belong to the SCV
to reenact with us and you do not have to reenact to belong to the SCV.
-
Memorials: We regularly participate in and sponsor memorials for Confederate
veterans.
-
Living Histories, fairs, etc.
-
School presentations: Members go to schools and do Show and Tell.
Teachers in Allen, Beauregard, and Vernon Parishes of Louisiana and
Newton County, Texas are encouraged to contact us for info on school
presentations.
