Louisiana State Historical Marker
Planned for the Fall of 2007
Site of General Tom Green's Death
The Louisiana Society Order of Confederate Rose has placed a State Historical Marker at a site that is significant to the History of Louisiana each of the last five years. This year the marker will be placed at the site of Blair's Landing. More specifically the site where General Tom Green was killed by gunfire from U.S.N. ships.
Each marker cost approximately $1700. LaSOCR has begun fund raising for the Green marker. Please contact Johanna Pate at lasocr@bellsouth.net or 337.375.1870 if you would like to participate in the project. Day of dedication has not been determined at this time, but is planned for some time in the Fall of 2007.
Directions to the site where the marker will be placed: I49 16 miles North of Nacthitoches, La. - take exit 155 which is the Ajax/Lake End exit. Go right on La174 and go 4.6 miles to where it dead ends into La 1 - turn left and travel .3 miles and then turn right on road to Lock and Dam #4. The site is in the big curve before you get to the park at the Lock and Dam.
The
site where the marker will be placed is near the deep curve in the road to the
lock and dam park.
Place near the fence is where Gary Joiner believes General Green fell.
Lock and Dam system is now where the river was in 1864.
Osage would have been located in the background of this picture.
Confederate
Troops would have been where this fence is now.
